What is asthma?

It’s an inflammatory disorder of airway causing attacks such as wheezing or shortness of breath.

What causes it?

Asthma is caused due to interaction of genetic and environmental factors. Exposure to allergens like pollen, mold, dust, mite, cockroaches, exposure to diesel, exhaust fumes and other pollutants triggers asthma.
Other factors that can trigger asthmatic attacks are inhaled allergens such as pollen, dust mite, tobacco, smoke, air pollution, exercise, strong emotions, chemical irritants and certain drugs like aspirin.

Symptoms

Cough, breathlessness, chest tightness

Precautions

Use inhalers Avoid diesel fumes and dust by covering face by mask or cloth Dust control measures in bedroom itself prevent 50% of the disease Keep the kitchen clean and away from cockroaches, which are a potent source of allergy and asthma Warm up before exercising Relaxation techniques like yoga control asthma Avoid smoking
